Audience
Every day you encounter the media in some shape or form whether it being by a walkman or the television.
Historical background:
· If we go back to a hundred and fifty years ago all of these Medias that are known today would have been just a fantasy.
· People living in this era would have found other ways to entertain themselves such as reading or mixing with other people and ge to a play or musical.
· Since this is the case the media could have resulted in splitting people up as cinemas are watched in small groups or as an individual.
· Another issue is that the media has caused children to not be as active because of the video games they now have.
· On the other hand the media can be viewed to bring people together for example if there is a picture chances are that people around the world would have shared in this experience.
· This brings the fear that because on a large scale people are exposed to the same media they are not able to judge whether it is bad or good.
The history of this idea and attempt to question how well it works:
· Within less than a hundred years medias such as radio and television were invented
· These media quickly became extremely popular and at
the same time there was an important difference between them
and older forms of entertainment
· In the older days only people who could afford to access these Medias would be able to see films and television.
· Now all people are able to view them
· Early media theorists struggled to understand this and found it easiest to compare the media
audiences with the kinds of crowds they were used to from the world before the media

They then came up with the idea of mass audience
